Big update for the active sports fans in the U.S. From Windy.app version 9.5 for iOS (January 26, 2021) you can have wind forecast — speed, direction, and gusts — from the NAM and HRRR weather models on the Wind and Precipitation Map of the world.

Both models are local (regional) and developed by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Regional means that they work especially for the territory of the U.S., and give you the most accurate wind forecast possible.

However, there some differences too:

Model Grid, km Forecast depth, days Step, hours Updates, times a day
NAM 12 2.5 1 2
HRRR 3 5 1 24

How to get the forecast

1. Open Wind and Precipitation Map from the Home Screen or a spot page:

2. Tap on wind speed or wind gusts icons.

3. Change the weather forecast models to NAM or HRRR:

Enjoy the outdoors with the Windy.app!
