Striped bass are caught in the surf at dawn and dusk with plugs and eels, bonito respond to small metal jigs and poppers cast parallel to the breaking waves, bluefish with metal jigs. Seasonality: Striped bass are the primary surf species at Nauset Light Beach in spring (May-June) and fall (September-October) with the most legendary action during the fall blitz when stripers trap sand eels against the beach. Bluefish are abundant in summer and fall. Atlantic bonito appear in the Outer Cape waters in summer and early fall (July-October) providing fast action on small poppers and metal jigs.
