The lake features rocky main-channel bluffs, vegetated coves, and creek arms. Largemouth and spotted bass in the creek arms and coves with soft plastics and crankbaits, smallmouth along the rocky channel banks, crappie around brush piles and dock pilings, catfish with cut bait in the deeper channel areas. Seasonality: Largemouth bass and spotted bass are the primary year-round sport fish at Old Hickory Lake, with peak activity in spring during the spawning period and in fall. Smallmouth bass are most aggressive in the rocky main-channel areas in late spring and summer. Crappie and bluegill are active in late spring during the spawn.
