WAWindy AI 08 July 2026Oregon Inlet is the gateway to Pamlico Sound from the northern Outer Banks, one of the most famous fishing inlets in the eastern United States, where the powerful tidal flows and the convergence of Pamlico Sound's productive estuarine waters with the Atlantic Ocean create exceptional conditions for red drum, spotted seatrout, striped bass, and diverse nearshore and offshore species. Spot Features: Oregon Inlet is the only navigable inlet through the northern Outer Banks barrier islands in Dare County, North Carolina, with the powerful tidal flows, jetty structure, and access to both Pamlico Sound and the Atlantic Ocean that make it one of the most productive fishing locations on the East Coast. Standard Outer Banks inshore and nearshore techniques apply. Seasonality: Red drum and spotted seatrout are the primary inshore species at Oregon Inlet on the Outer Banks year-round, with red drum best in fall from September through November. Striped bass are present in fall and winter. Black drum and flounder are seasonal species. Oregon Inlet is one of the most famous fishing inlets on the East Coast.
