The Cape Poge Wildlife Refuge's undeveloped dunes and the powerful tidal rips at Cape Poge Gut create exceptional conditions for fall striped bass fishing, and the bay is regarded by many Vineyard anglers as the best single bass location on the island. Spot Features: Cape Poge Bay is a large sheltered bay on the eastern coast of Chappaquiddick Island, Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, protected by Cape Poge Wildlife Refuge and the long sand barrier of Cape Poge. The powerful tidal rips at the inlet and the productive flats inside the bay concentrate striped bass and bluefish during their migrations. Striped bass with live eels and lipped plugs in the rips, bluefish with metal jigs, bonito with small poppers. Seasonality: Striped bass are the primary target at Cape Poge Bay on Martha's Vineyard in spring (May-June) and fall (September-October) during their coastal migrations, the bay is particularly famous for fall striper fishing when large fish concentrate near Chappaquiddick. Bluefish follow baitfish through summer and fall. Summer flounder are present from late spring through early fall. Atlantic bonito appear in late summer.
