Surf Sports are an exciting part of the lifesaving movement, and helps develop skills and fitness which can be used in performing rescues. Regularly throughout the season there are competitions (called carnivals) at which Tallebudgera lifesavers compete with keen enthusiasm. Carnivals see people of all ages competing – from Nippers to Masters and ages in between. The surf sports season culminates in the titles – held at Branch, State and National levels. Kicking off in 1950 on the warm shingles of Marine Parade, Pacific Lifeguards have spent many a day patrolling the beach, and dabbling in the odd bit of surf-sport. Back in the days the beach had sand, woollen togs, and reel-rescues. Now, Pacific Lifeguards prefer Rescue tubes, knee boards, and IRB's (if they can get their hands on it). Pop down to the club and go for a casual swim with the guards - between the flags of course. Or instead take a stroll along the Rotary Pathway (be sure to slip, slop, slap).
