Spot Features: Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary is a 638-square-mile offshore marine sanctuary in Massachusetts Bay between Cape Ann and Provincetown, home to one of the world's most productive bluefin tuna fishing grounds as well as classic New England groundfish populations including cod, haddock, and pollock. Stellwagen Bank is also a critical whale feeding area, adding ecological significance to this nationally protected marine environment. Seasonality: Bluefin tuna and striped bass are the primary large game fish at Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary from spring through fall, with bluefin tuna most abundant from June through October and striped bass best in spring and fall. Cod and haddock are year-round bottom fish, most accessible in spring and fall.
