Urban Boatbuilders is a youth empowerment nonprofit serving youth in the Twin Cities Metro Area. We strive to empower youth to build success in their own lives through skill building and hands-on education. Through our Apprenticeship Program, underserved youth work in cohorts of peers to build boats along with skills that will make them prepared for the modern work environment.

UAO has changed names to "The Black Oar".The Black Oar board & bike Shop was founded by Alex Linnell - The first person to ever stand up paddle the entire length of the Mississippi River in the summer of 2011.Alex has set multiple world records including the Stand up paddle board distance record, paddling over 2323 miles in just 65 days!
