Introducing Spot Finder on the site

Share:

We’d like to introduce a new and incredibly useful feature on the site — the Spot Finder. The feature is based on 9 years of weather observations and spot info we carefully researched.

The name speaks for itself: with its help, you can finally find the right spot for a particular outdoor activity not only in the app but also on the site. Considering that the site and the app are suitable for more than 20 sports, we started with kitesurfing as the historically first activity for which the Windy.app was created in 2016. Next, we’ll be adding other sports to Spot Finder and even more spots than the feature allow us to find today. So, how to find a spot:

Spot Finder. Version 1 on the Windy.app site

1. Open a new section on the site, Spot Finder.

2. Set the search filters:

  • Country you want to go
  • Season by specifying one or more months, such as June, July, and August to get summer in the Northern Hemisphere or a winter in Southern. To reset the filter, click on the cross sign.
  • A number of windy days in the month. For kitesurfing good wind speed is 6 m/s, that’s why it is shown by default.
  • The daily temperature is comfortable for you

3. Click on "Find your spot".

4. In the search results you’ll see spots including name, photo, amount of “favorites” in the database of the site and the app, and the settings you gave.

5. Continue to browse the spots in a list or switch to the Map Mode.

6. Navigate to a specific spot to learn more information about it (Spot Info section down the page) and get the weather forecast.

7. Again: save the Spot Finder main page to your browser bookmarks.

We will be happy to receive your suggestions for improving this and other features at [email protected].
