The Manasquan River is the primary tidal river in central Monmouth County, New Jersey, flowing to Manasquan Inlet and one of the most productive inshore fishing waterways on the Jersey Shore. It supports striped bass, summer flounder, bluefish, and tautog through seasonal migrations, making it a versatile four-season fishing destination accessible from numerous public access points along the river corridor. Spot Features: The Manasquan River is a significant tidal river in Monmouth County, New Jersey, flowing from its headwaters to Manasquan Inlet where it joins the Atlantic. The tidal river features strong currents, dock pilings, rock jetties, and tidal flats that concentrate striped bass, fluke, and tautog. Stripers are caught on live eels, swimming plugs, and large soft plastics in the current seams, fluke anglers drift bucktails and Gulp baits in the tidal channels, tautog are taken on green crab near the rocky structure. Seasonality: Striped bass are the primary sport fish in the Manasquan River, entering from Manasquan Inlet in spring (April-June) and returning in fall (September-October). Summer flounder (fluke) are the prime summer target from June through August in the tidal river and at the inlet. Bluefish and tautog provide seasonal opportunities. Weakfish (sea trout) can be encountered in spring and fall.
