The Blue Flag is an outdoor award that has been given for 35 years to the best beaches, marinas, and tourist boats around the world.
The vast majority are in Europe, ranging from Spain, where there are 729 such places/companies, to Germany, where there are 137. Other leading countries include France, Italy, Portugal, and many others. In North America, the leader is Mexico with 103 spots, followed by Canada with 32. Other countries in other parts of the world with the most Blue Flags are South Africa — 61, Israel — 56, and Brazil — 28. Australia, as well as the U.S., do not participate in the program (but of course, this does not mean that there are no good beaches, on the contrary: take at least California and the Gold Coast).
In other words, no matter where you go in Europe and some other places for various water sports or traveling, you do not need to specifically look for places that are marked by a Blue Flag — there are hundreds of them, they will find you. The other case is places with "only" dozens or even a few awards. For example, these are Chile, Finland and India.
In this article, we’ve compiled a list of such places, so you don’t have to look for them specifically, starting with countries with a total number of Blue Flags of 10 or less.
