The new Customization feature screen in the iOS version
We have updated the Customization feature screen, which helps you to make the weather forecast you need and get “a kind of a DIY Windy.app”. It is good for almost any possible situation while doing your favorite sport or outdoor activity.
The main change is that we have grouped the weather parameters into several categories to make your search easier and more fun for those who understand weather models at an advanced level — or want to learn how to do so.
I’m new to the Windy.app. What is customization?
In general, customization is a set of easy actions that you can perform to customize the app or some OS to make it even more convenient and personal. Usually, this includes features like the ability to change the font size, to put certain blocks on the home screen, and so on.
In particular, in the Windy.app, first of all, you can customize the weather forecast the way you need, choosing from 50+ weather parameters, and then again, and again, depending on your needs. You could rename a custom profile and get “a kind of a DIY Windy.app”.
How do I use the new Customization screen compared to the old one?
The main thing that has changed is that on the old feature screen, the weather parameters were presented as a single list. Some users had difficulty choosing: what and why?

In one of the past updates of the app, we’ve grouped the weather parameters into several categories to make your search easier and more fun at the same time. We’ve also added a few new items from other parts of the app.

So now, here’s what you can do in the new Customization feature screen:
1. Choose a weather profile for your sport.

To create your custom profile, click on the “+”. To rename a profile, click on the pencil icon. To delete it, scroll the slider to the right and click on the trash can icon.

2. Go to the General settings and unites to select measurement units for your region.

3. Expand the slider with the Wind Map to change its colors to which you like. Read more about how to change the colors in the Wind Map in our separate guide.

4. See how your selected weather profile will look in the Profile preview. This is an example of a 10-day forecast table.

5. Check the list of all weather parameters in the selected Weather Profile (or your Custom Weather Profile).

Remove one or more parameters from this profile in the "Selected parameters" list. Actually, this is another way to create a Custom profile. Deleting a parameter automatically creates a new Custom Profile at the top of the screen.
6. Add a new weather parameter(s) to your Custom Profile from the "Available forecast parameters" list. There are two ways to do this:
Easy — this is an list of all the other weather parameters which are not available in the selected Weather Profile like Fish or Sail or your Custom Profile and may be useful to you. It saves you time for looking for particular parameter.

Advanced — this is the same list but presented as a division into different weather models, which we use in the Windy.app — more than 10 models in total. In other words, this list shows which parameters are available in which model.

Once again: what's the difference? The first list is suitable for everyone, the second one for those who understand the weather and weather models or want to learn it. For example, in your Custom Weather Profile, you can choose wind forecast from the GFS weather model, not ECMWF. Forecasts in different models can be very different.
Where can I find the Customization feature?
Open your favorite or nearest spot to your current location and click on the Weather Profile icon to the right of the slider with weather models. For this post we have used Bergamo, Italy — a great place with a lot of possibilities for outdoor activities like hiking, cycling, paragliding, kite- and windsurfing, and others.
