Skiing
Skiing is a winter and snow extreme sport and outdoor activity. The name comes from the words "skis" and "moving".
In skiing, you use special boots fastened firmly into the skis and ride in the forest (cross-country skiing) or down the slope (Alpine skiing or skiing). Both main types of skiing are included in the program of the Winter Olympic Games. The latter includes five sports disciplines: slalom, giant slalom, super-G, downhill, combined.
Skiing is popular in many regions of the world. The most famous European resorts are located in the Alps: in Switzerland, Italy, Austria, France. In the US, major resorts are located in the states of Utah, Vermont, Colorado. Ski slopes are also popular in Canada, Finland, Georgia, etc. Even in Africa, there are small resorts in Morocco.
The natural ski season begins and ends at different resorts at different times: you need a stable snow cover on the slopes. In addition, many large cities have resorts with artificial snow or indoor sports complexes with snow tracks, where you can train all year round.
The main pleasure of skiing is the opportunity to ride the most beautiful mountains during a sporting activity. However, Alpine skiing is considered an extreme sport, where it is easy to get serious injury, but it does not stop millions of people around the world of trying and practicing it. Getting up on skis is not difficult and you can even do it yourself, using video tutorials. It’s enough to rent a set of equipment (boots, skis with bindings, ski poles), a protective helmet, and come to the ski resort. But to learn the correct technique and progress faster, we recommend that you study with an instructor at the start.
