What is the best month for kitesurfing? March. Ok, any month — it depends on where you go. Read this brief review to plan your early spring trip to the best kitesurfing destinations.
There are world-famous places like Tarifa in Spain, or San Francisco Bay in the United States as well as lesser-known places like Neusiedler Lake in Austria or Toronto Island in Canada. With the first ones everything is clear — they are must-kite, but who would have thought that kiting is possible in the latter? Yes, it is.
All that remains is to test it.
This popular tourist center with many resorts and hotels near the Red Sea is great for kitesurfing and other aquatic activities. The water-sports season in Hurghada lasts from March till November. And March is maybe one of the best months to go there as it is comfortably warm (summers are usually very hot in Egypt — about 30–36 °C, while the early spring weather is milder).

Another hot spot is Dakhla. This Moroccan city is located in Western Sahara but do not worry, there is enough water there — the Atlantic Ocean “cuddles” the desert in this part of Africa. And unlike the poor in vegetation land, the ocean has rich marine life that attracts both fishers and tourists. Tourists, though, are attracted not only by water inhabitants but also by great weather conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing.

Some publications call Kalpitiya the best spot for kitesurfing in Sri Lanka. It may be so… At least, the area has wonderful weather conditions, beautiful landscapes (14 small islands!), a large marine sanctuary (there are reefs and mangroves swamps there!), and a national park (elephants and crocodiles live there).
Kitesurf season: January — September
Air temperature: from 23 °C to 33 °C
Working wind direction: NE
Water condition: little chop, flat
Water depth: 0.5–1m
Accommodation: from $6

If you prefer Europe to Asia, you may go to Austria. In March, Neusiedler See would be a nice place for kitesurfing. It would be comparatively cold there but this lake near the town of Podersdorf is very popular among surfers. The lake is shallow, it is located in the area with mostly sunny (but windy) weather and can boast picturesque nature (it is a great place for ornithologists too — many species of birds live near the lake).

The Netherlands is another European country that is good for kitesurfing in March. Just like the previous spot, this one is located near the lake (Wolderwijd lake). Strand Horst is a very crowded location because there are not so many places for water sports in the Netherlands and people from all the country (and even near-located countries) go there to feel the gusty wind over the water surface.

We mentioned this spot in one of the previews reviews but Tarifa has long surfing season, so, we have to repeat ourselves. This Spain town is located near the Strait of Gibraltar and therefore has great wind conditions for windsurfing and kitesurfing (the place also has very stable temperatures throughout the year — winters are almost as warm as summers and too hot summer days are usually not expected there).

If you live in the Western hemisphere, you may want to go to Canada (we hope you are not afraid of cold weather — it would not be warm there). Toronto Islands are the small islands in Lake Ontario (one of the Great Lakes) and are more popular among kiters than you might think. All the kitesurfing spots there are located near to the city of Toronto and have good conditions for pros and beginners.

This spot was also mentioned before. Islamorada, the Violet Island, is located in Florida, United States. It is perfect for aquatic activities (for example, it is even called "Sportfishing Capital of the World") and is very popular (there are many locals training on the beaches but there are even more tourists there).

San Francisco Bay is located near such towns as San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose (and some others). It is in California, guys, so, it is very fancy. Some resources call this area a mecca for sailors, but, we think it is a mecca for kiters too. It would be warm but not hot in March there, wind will be strong.

This archipelago consists of 350 islands and islets, has a very prominent coral reef (for those who like to observe marine life) and a national park (for those who like beautiful nature, so, basically, for all of us). Activities available for Los Roques guests are fishing, birding, snorkeling, diving, paddling, windsurfing, and kitesurfing.
