Tip #24. Determine your geographic coordinates

Tip #24. Determine your geographic coordinates

Among 100+ Windy.app features, there are always one or two, or even three that you didn't know about, right? Even if you're a true weather and outdoor expert using the app. Meanwhile, these may be important features.

For example, you can determine your geographic coordinates using the Weather Map in the Windy.app. Why determine coordinates? Knowing your exact location can be useful in a variety of situations. First of all, to share it with your friends to call them to the spot. But also for safety, to give your location data to the rescue service (but we hope you won't need that). And others.

Here’s exactly how you can do it:

1. First, give the app access to your exact location. To do this, find Windy.app in your phone's Settings. If you have iOS, tap "Location", then select "Ask Next Time..." or "While Using the app". The settings in Andoid look similar.

2. Open the Weather Map from the Home screen of the app or from the Spot or Weather Station screens.

3. That's it, you don't need to do anything else. As soon as you open the map, the app will tell you your exact location, which will appear as a widget. Here you'll get the coordinates in the today's most common format Decimal Degrees (DD), for example N 36.9771, W 106.838, which is also used for example on Google Maps.

Learn how to read coordinates in a separate post on the Windy.app blog.

4. To get the weather forecast for your location, click on the widget and go to the Spot Page.
