Tip #22. Find out the chance of rain (%) on the Windy.app site

Among 100+ Windy.app features, there are always one or two, or even three that you didn't know about, right? Even if you're a true weather and outdoor expert using the app. Meanwhile, these may be important features.

For example, you can find out the chance of rain expressed as a percentage on the Windy.app site in addition to the other formats in the app itself: the exact data in the forecast table (for example, 2 mm per hour), the Rain and Snow, and Clouds and Precipitation charts, as well as the Precipitation Map as a layer of the general Weather Map. The chance of rain is also called the probability of precipitation (PoP). As other formats, it allows you to quickly understand whether it will rain or snow and therefore your chances of avoiding it and if it's not possible, to better prepare for it, as in the cases of, say, a multi-day hike, a bicycle trip, or sailing in an open boat, and others.

Here’s exactly how you can do it:

1. Open the Windy.app site.

2. Find your nearest or favorite spot via search, Spotfinder (now for kitesurfing, more sports on the way), or icons on the Wind Map. The spots are also listed by country in the relevant Spots section of the site, where the best spots are highlighted.

3. Go to the spot and scroll to the end of the forecast table. Under it, you will see a text description of its main parameters, including the chance of rain in percent.

4. Go to the app if you need data in other formats in addition to the information on the site or you want to compare it.

5. To know exactly what the probability of rain is and how to interpret it accurately, read the corresponding blog article and learn even more about the nature of precipitation itself, including its main types, in the Windy.app Meteorological Textbook (WMT) and newsletter for better weather forecasting.
